About the institute and ATSU audiology

The AFA Balance & Hearing Institute located in Mesa, Arizona, officially opened its doors in January 2013. The AFA Balance & Hearing Institute was made possible by a generous startup donation from the Audiology Foundation of America (AFA) and other supporting partners. Unlike most private practice or retail franchises, the AFA facility is part of a university teaching institution, the Arizona School of Health Sciences at A.T. Still University.


The AFA Institute offers a full range of hearing and balance care for patients of all ages. In fact, our knowledge and experience enables us to offer more services to you than many other facilities.

  • Earwax removal
  • Immittance & Eustachian tube function tests
  • Otoacoustic emissions
  • Custom earmolds for hearing protection and hearing aids
  • Videonystagmography (VNG)
  • Rotational chair
  • Computerized dynamic posturography (CDP)
  • Video head impulse testing (vHIT)
  • Canalith repositioning for BPPV
  • Vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (VEMP)
  • Auditory brainstem response (ABR)
  • Electrocochleography (ECochG)

Our providers are university faculty members working with student doctors of audiology. All student doctors are supervised by licensed doctors of audiology so you can be confident that you will receive the highest quality care using the latest technologies in a friendly and compassionate environment.

ATSU’s Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Department

The mission of A.T. Still University’s (ATSU) Department of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology is to educate outstanding doctors of audiology and speech-language pathologists who are critical thinkers, leaders, innovators, and compassionate healthcare practitioners.
