Your work deserves recognition
Posted: June 4, 2009If you’ve ever flipped through a newspaper or magazine and found yourself unsettled by misleading or confusing facts, quotes, or statistics, you’ve probably wondered where the authors got their sources.
Maybe you’ve even wished that the author could have called you for information – especially when you come across an article on a subject that falls directly in your field of expertise.
Now you have your chance. Every day, journalists seek out expert sources for their articles using multiple methods, including a service called ProfNet. ProfNet is a database that connects journalists with expert sources around the world, and it’s one of many services that Communications & Marketing subscribes to here at ATSU. Nearly 14,000 communicators use ProfNet – and it’s not just journalists. Authors, bloggers, government officials, consultants, and many other professionals use it to find expert sources.
We use ProfNet to connect experts at ATSU with the media – giving the University an outlet to make its voice heard and giving the communicator a solid source for their work. But we’ve found that it’s difficult to keep up with ATSU’s many experts, and to make sure that everyone stays informed. So we’re getting the word out about this resource, and we want you to be part of this initiative. We’re looking for current faculty and staff at the University to participate, as well as University alumni with relevant experience.
If you’re interested in sharing your expertise, simply fill out this online form. Your information will be stored in a database of experts that we’ll use to respond to the media’s inquiries – and the more information you give us, the better we’ll be able to connect you with the media. For example, we may receive a query from a journalist writing a piece on the dangers of certain supplements. If we know you work in the pharmacology department, and you’ve researched the effects of mind-altering herbal supplements, then we’ll refer to you to that journalist. They’ll contact you with their questions – it’s as simple as that.
ATSU supports the professional work of its faculty and staff, and Communications & Marketing is here to help you tell your story. While we can’t guarantee that you will be published, you’ll be doing a great service to the University by promoting your work. And if you are published, you may receive local or even national attention. Who knows, maybe someday you’ll be flipping through that same magazine and see your own words on the pages. With ProfNet, that opportunity is just a few clicks away.
