YMCA Summer Camp comes to ATSU’s HPS Lab
Posted: July 24, 2017The Adair County YMCA brought 30 children to A. T. Still University’s (ATSU) Drabing Human Patient Simulation (HPS) Lab. The kids were broken into groups and participated in an interactive HPS Lab experience. With the help of second-year medical students and medical education fellows, the children were able to simulate how healthcare professionals would treat someone injured by falling off their bike.
“Some would wonder why we’re educating 10-12 year olds in our HPS Lab, but we feel it’s part of a larger community experience that will better Kirksville as a whole,” said Lisa Archer, director of simulation & performance assessment at ATSU. “It’s beneficial to expose the younger population to the impact healthcare professionals can make.”
