The art of communication

Mark Holley, DPT 2011, began drawing and painting in high school as a creative outlet that helped him “sort out my thoughts,” he says. “I could communicate to other people, and I liked it because there was no right or wrong way to do it as long as you could express your ideas to others. No one could tell me I was wrong. There was no right answer.”
Holley’s life drawings are a study of anatomy, he says. “All subjects or patients are different to work with. Whatever you want to paint or draw, you have to become familiar with and be an expert before you can start. I think treating individual patients is like that, too. Art to me is communication. I’ll use that with patients as well.”
