SOMA student awarded three scholarships

Mohammed Naqvi, OMS III

Mohammed Naqvi, OMS III, is a recipient of the following scholarships: the Humanism in Medicine Scholarship from the Student Osteopathic Medical Association Foundation; ATSU Women’s Wellness Scholar; and the American Osteopathic Foundation Welch Scholar Grant.

The Humanism in Medicine Scholarship recipient reflects the benevolent character exemplified by those members of the osteopathic family who died Oct. 19, 2004. The eight members were flying to Kirksville, Mo., to explore ways of improving and developing a compassionate campus at ATSU’s Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. Naqvi’s demonstration of leadership, dedication, compassion, and enthusiasm awarded him the $1,000 scholarship.

Naqvi was also chosen as a 2011 Women’s Wellness Scholar. The Scholars Program is funded by members of ATSU’s Women’s Wellness program. This is the second year the Women’s Wellness program has provided student scholarship support. The program is committed to providing philanthropic support for the University’s innovative educational models, scholarships for its graduate healthcare students, and patient care for vulnerable populations.

The Welch Scholars Grant provides monetary support to help defer costs during a student’s osteopathic medical education. Naqvi was awarded $2,000 due to his outstanding academic achievement, participation in extracurricular activities, and strong commitment toward osteopathic medicine.
