Posted: March 9, 2020The fifth annual Education And Recreation (E.A.R.) Day was hosted by A.T. Still University-Arizona School of Health Sciences’ (ATSU-ASHS) doctor of audiology students on Feb. 29, 2020. ATSU’s Student Academy of Audiology chapter coordinated the event. E.A.R. Day is a day of fun and learning for the Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing community, including children, parents, siblings, and friends.
Those in attendance had an opportunity to meet and socialize with new people at the Mesa, Arizona, campus. A variety of activities for kids included obstacle courses, lawn games, face painting, puzzles, and other entertaining stations. Guest speakers provided learning opportunities for children that covered topics such as hearing protection and communication strategies. There were also specific sessions geared toward parent education and support.
E.A.R. Day was started in 2014 after Lisa Bell, AuD, ’16, received funding from the National Student Academy of Audiology HEAR Chapter Grant. It has been held in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2020.
