Dr. Shanahan named Juan Carlos Olivares Hometown Scholar Advocate of the Year

Catherine Shanahan, MD, was recently named Juan Carlos Olivares Hometown Scholar Advocate of the Year by the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) and A.T. Still University (ATSU). Dr. Shanahan serves as regional director of medical education at HealthSource of Ohio, where she oversees the clinical curriculum for students from ATSU’s School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona (ATSU-SOMA).

Hometown Scholars is an initiative of NACHC, in partnership with ATSU. The purpose of the program is to identify and train highly effective healers who are committed to serving in America’s community health centers. Dr. Shanahan is part of a supportive community that mentors these students and many others, cultivating their commitment to serving the underserved.

“The award is meaningful for all community health centers and ATSU,” says Dr. Shanahan. “Without the combined efforts of many community members, these scholars would not be identified and nurtured. The current ATSU-SOMA students had a great deal to do with the support and success of these scholars.”
