Dr. Duong nominated for Phoenix Business Journal’s Health Care Heroes Award
Posted: September 13, 2018Mai-Ly Duong, DMD, MPH, MAEd, ’12, assistant professor at A.T. Still University’s Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health (ATSU-ASDOH) was nominated for the Phoenix Business Journal’s Health Care Heroes Award. The awards program honors people who have dedicated their lives to helping the community through healthcare. Dr. Duong was recognized for her research, articles, and lectures, as well as her work in special needs dentistry. Dr. Duong has been integral in organizing Give Kids A Smile, Day for Special Smiles, and the Arizona Oral Cancer Walk.
“They say that it takes a village to raise a child,” says Dr. Duong. “That is definitely true in my case. I think that’s why I am so passionate about giving back to the community in any way I can. I would not be where I am today without the help of all the people in the village. If I can play a small part in improving our community, building and strengthening our village, hopefully our village can and will continue to raise the children in it. I especially want to thank the Arizona Dental Foundation for nominating me and the Phoenix Business Journal for selecting me as a top-three finalist. I am very humbled and honored. I also want to thank my ATSU family, as well as my Arizona Dental Association and Arizona Academy of General Dentistry families. I’d also like to give a huge ‘thank you’ to all the volunteers who have joined me in the fight against oral cancer and combating access-to-care issues for our special needs populations. I will continue to work hard, fight, and contribute. They also say that those who are crazy enough to believe they can change the world are the ones who actually do. So, let’s all go crazy!”
