ATSU students play active role in Special Olympics Triathlon
Posted: October 20, 2009ATSU-SOMA students and ASHS occupational therapy and physician assistant students helped make the Special Olympics a success. The 2nd annual Red Rock Sprint & Unified Triathlon to benefit Special Olympics Arizona was held September 12 at The Village DC Ranch Health Club and Spa in Scottsdale, Ariz.
In addition to OT students Kendra Mitchell and Rachel Feierstein being on the planning committee for the event, ATSU students partnered with Special Olympics participants to help them complete the triathlon. “As students in healthcare and future healthcare professionals, we believed it was important to assist in an event that focused on helping developmentally disabled individuals achieve their best,” said Feierstein.
The Special Olympics committee also awarded ATSU the organization that raised the most funds in the school category – $2,095.
Participants included Rani Sutliff, PT ’11; Angelena Lopez, OMS I; PA ’11 students Elizabeth Khoury, Sara Wilson, and Kayse Barry; and OT ’11 students Casey Zitelli, Jennifer Klaine, Laura Habermann, Keri Yocom, Jessica Nelson, Kendra Mitchell, and Rachael Feierstein.
