Jeremy Berger, OMS ll, A.T. Still University’s School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona (ATSU-SOMA), had an article published in the June 6, 2014 issue of The DO. In the article, Berger, who is currently in his clinical rotation at Unity Health Care’s East of the River Health Care in Washington, D.C., shares his experience about caring for the underserved and learning from his patients in a teaching health center. Unity Health Care is one of ATSU’s partnered community health centers through which second, third and fourth year ATSU-SOMA students gain clinical experience.

“I want to help these kinds of patients—those who are economically vulnerable, who don’t know where to turn,” notes Berger. “Working in the clinic has given me the kind of firsthand insights that will help me. In community health, my job as a physician will be not only to guide patients back to health, but also to help guide them through the healthcare system.”
