ATSU-SOMA celebrates sixth graduating class
Posted: May 23, 2016A.T. Still University’s School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona (ATSU-SOMA) celebrated its sixth graduating class at the Mesa Arts Center on May 20, 2016. The Class of 2016, with 103 graduates consisting of 50 females and 53 males, accepted their Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degrees. Among the graduating class were eight military graduates.
“Today’s ceremony marks a major milestone as you join the ranks of a special group of osteopathic physicians,” said ATSU-SOMA Dean, Jeffrey Morgan, DO, MA, FACOI. “You are entering a profession on the verge of an unprecedented change, and you are poised to show the world what being an osteopathic physician truly means.”
Darrell Lynn Grace, DO, hospitalist at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio, gave the keynote speech, and was also presented with a doctor of humane letters during the ceremony. Dr. Grace helped establish Grace Place Medical Service in association with the Greater Youngstown Coalition of Christians, a clinic for the underserved, uninsured, and underinsured. She also worked with Heart to Heart International, providing medical care to Hurricane Katrina victims in New Orleans in February 2007 and earthquake victims in Haiti in February 2010 and again in November 2011.
