A.T. Still University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona (ATSU-SOMA) alumna, Maryann Davies, DO, MPH, ’18, is part of a group of pediatric residents at Riverside University Health System Medical Center taking part in the Food Stamp Challenge. Participants in this challenge are eating meals on just $3.21 total per day — the equivalent of what a single adult receives in food stamps through the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
The goal is to help physicians understand the nutritional struggles faced by many of their patients.
The doctors hope their experience will give them nutritional tips they can share with patients as well as open dialogue regarding what public assistance is about.
The food stamp challenge is one of the best ways to learn about the nutrition hurdles that low-income Americans face every day. Access the full article regarding Dr. Davies Food Stamp Challenge.
