ATSU-SAMOPS letter marks 9/11 anniversary

On the morning of September 11, 2001, at 8:45 a.m., the United States experienced a series of attacks on the Twin Towers, Pentagon, and on-board United Airlines Flight 93, that would result in 2,996 lives lost and millions impacted.
These attacks were meant to strike fear into the hearts of the American people, but it only served to unite the nation and reveal the heroes our nation is made of. Countless people, to include both first responders and everyday citizens, selflessly rushed into burning buildings to try and save their fellow brothers and sisters. The heroes aboard Flight 93 fought their hijackers, sacrificing their lives to ensure another plane did not hit its intended target, saving countless others. Since then, hundreds of thousands of service members have sacrificed their physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing at war. Some have sacrificed their lives.
Today, on the 19th anniversary of that fateful day, we ask you to never forget the lives lost, nor the examples of love, compassion, and resiliency we demonstrated as a nation. Please take a moment of silence to honor and reflect on the innocent that were taken too soon, the ground zero heroes who selflessly gave their lives in love of their fellow brothers and sisters, and the service members who paid the ultimate price in the War on Terror.
