ATSU-KCOM alumnus receives AOCA Arnold P. Gold Foundation Humanism Award

Robert C. Vandergraaf, DO, ’83, FAOCA, FASA, recently received the Arnold P. Gold Foundation Humanism Award at the 2022 American Osteopathic College of Anesthesiologists’ (AOCA) annual convention.

Dr. Vandergraaf graduated from A.T. Still University-Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM) in 1983 and has spent his medical career practicing as an anesthesiologist in Vallejo, California.

The award was established by the Arnold P. Gold Foundation and is given to healthcare practitioners who have best exhibited compassionate and respectful care for their patient’s well-being. The award also recognizes the practitioner’s communication and listening skills, empathy, cultural sensitivity, and competence in scientific endeavors.

“Dr. Vandergraaf has epitomized these characteristics throughout his career and remains an example of humanistic care to all,” AOCA wrote in a press release.
