ATSU-CGHS DHA program empowering student to lead and innovate

Driven by a desire to enhance her knowledge and credibility as a healthcare leader, Yarimar I. Díaz Rodríguez, MS, CCC-SLP, sought out a doctoral program that would help her achieve her professional goals.

Enrolling in the Doctor of Health Administration (DHA) degree program at A.T. Still University-College of Graduate Health Studies (ATSU-CGHS) has set her on that path.

“ATSU’s commitment to innovation and cutting-edge research in healthcare administration convinced me that this program would provide me with the skills and expertise needed to succeed in the dynamic healthcare industry,” she said.

“The program’s rigorous curriculum, practical experience, and networking opportunities will enhance my expertise and credibility as a healthcare leader, allowing me to pursue leadership roles in hospitals, healthcare organizations, or academia. Additionally, the critical thinking, problem-solving, and strategic planning skills developed through this program will enable me to address complex challenges in the healthcare industry and drive positive change within my organization and the broader healthcare community.”

Designed for professionals in upper or middle healthcare management, the DHA program delivers a comprehensive curriculum tailored to equip students with essential leadership skills. For Rodríguez, who works as a speech-language pathologist in an inpatient rehabilitation hospital, finding a flexible, 100% online program was crucial to balancing her career, education, and personal life.

“Online learning provides the convenience of studying from anywhere at any time, allowing me to advance my education without putting my life on hold,” she said.

The program’s curriculum offers a challenging and interdisciplinary experience for students, requiring 62 credit hours of coursework and the completion of a doctoral research project. To stay on track, Rodríguez carefully manages her time and utilizes available resources.

“I make use of tools like calendars and to-do lists to organize my schedule and ensure I allocate time for work, study, and personal activities. Additionally, setting realistic goals and boundaries helps me maintain a healthy balance between my professional, academic, and personal responsibilities. Communication with my employer, family, and support network is also crucial in managing expectations and seeking assistance when needed,” she said.

ATSU’s DHA program not only fosters critical thinking and problem-solving skills but also provides a strong support system through faculty and staff who are deeply invested in student success.

“The program faculty and staff go above and beyond to create a supportive learning environment that fosters academic growth and success,” she said.

“They are readily accessible and responsive to any questions or concerns I have about the coursework, assignments, or program requirements…Additionally, program staff offer administrative support, such as assistance with registration, course scheduling, and accessing resources. Regular communication channels, including emails, discussion forums, and virtual office hours, ensure that I feel supported and connected to the program community.”
