ATSU-CGHS alumna appointed to Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors

An A.T. Still University-College of Graduate Health Studies (ATSU-CGHS) alumna has been appointed to the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors.
Carmelia “Lia” Amuna, DHEd, LPC, ’10, was one of three board appointments made by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. Dr. Amuna’s term will expire Feb. 1, 2027.
Dr. Amuna, of Killeen, Texas, is director of the Student Wellness and Counseling Center at Texas A&M University – Central Texas. She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Mercer University, a master’s degree in counseling from Georgia School of Professional Psychology, and a doctor of health education degree from ATSU. She also earned a certificate in management from Harvard Business School and a certificate in global health informatics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She is a licensed professional counselor in three states, national certified counselor, certified sexual disorder diagnostician, and master addiction counselor.
The board has licensing, examination, and rulemaking responsibilities in the field of professional counseling. Members establish qualifications for licensure and ethical standards to practice as a professional counselor in Texas.
