ATSU-ASHS’ student featured during NATA conference
Posted: July 28, 2020A.T. Still University-Arizona School of Health Sciences (ATSU-ASHS) student Joshua Honrado, DAT, ’20, MS, ATC, CSCS, was featured in a press release from National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) that was released during NATA’s annual conference. The conference was held virtually this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Honrado presented findings from his research project, “Epidemiology of Dance-Related Injuries Presenting to Emergency Departments in the United States, 2014-2018.” The research project was co-authored by Curt Bay, PhD, professor, ATSU-ASHS and Kenneth Lam, ScD, ATC, associate professor, ATSU-ASHS.
“The use of in-house medical professionals, such as athletic trainers, in performing arts studios and organizations are likely to positively impact the need to visit the emergency room, which can be costly to the family and can slow down urgent response to other critical care in the emergency room,” Honrado said in the press release. “Musculoskeletal injuries such as sprains, strains, contusions are a part of the athletic trainers’ scope of work and may help the performing arts athlete avoid a visit to urgent care or the emergency room.”
According to the press release, Honrado’s study abstract will be published in the Journal of Athletic Training, the scientific journal of NATA, later this year.
