ATSU-ASHS Speech-Language Pathology program student gives insights as ambassador
Posted: February 16, 2023Becoming a student ambassador was an easy decision for A.T. Still University-Arizona School of Health Sciences (ATSU-ASHS) Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) program student Eva Fernanda Guerrero, ’24.
From Yuma, Arizona, Guerrero attended the University of Arizona and earned a bachelor of science in speech, language, and hearing sciences, with minors in family studies and psychology.
Guerrero, a first-generation Mexican-American college graduate, found the process of applying to graduate health sciences schools daunting, and wanted to help those in similar situations.
“I joined because I would like to help incoming students, especially students from a Latino background who may not have enough support,” she said. “As a student ambassador, I can give insight into the program such as the workload or class structures that can help students make a decision.”
Guerrero, who enjoys hiking, traveling, painting, and cooking, was drawn to ATSU-ASHS’ SLP program by the emphasis on training culturally competent clinicians for culturally diverse populations.
Guerrero also serves as historian for the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA) Club for the SLP program.
“Since the Speech-Language Pathology program is a new program at ATSU, there was no NSSLHA Club to represent ATSU nationwide. I was excited to be a part of building the new club. I also really enjoyed being a part of the NSSLHA Club at the University of Arizona during my undergrad,” she said.
