ATSU-ASHS OT faculty, students, and alumni attend fall 2022 ArizOTA conference

A.T. Still University’s (ATSU) Mesa, Arizona, campus hosted the 2022 fall Arizona Occupational Therapy Association (ArizOTA) conference Oct. 21-22, where many ATSU-Arizona School of Health Sciences (ATSU-ASHS) occupational therapy (OT) faculty, students, and alumni gathered together to present, network, and volunteer.

The ArizOTA conference, which is generally held twice a year, serves as an opportunity for OT practitioners and students to connect with those in their field and attend and participate in inspiring informational sessions.

The keynote address, “Reconnect, Reinvent, Reinspire!”, was delivered by Alyson Stover, JD, OTR/L, BCP, president of the American Occupational Therapy Association.

Several ATSU-ASHS OT faculty members also presented at the conference. Adam Story, OTD, OTR/L, PT, DPT, MTC, assistant professor, presented a session entitled “Building Allies from the Community,” with Doctor of Occupational Therapy program student Kat Bauer, OTS, MS.

Tania Shearon, MOT, OTR/L, CHT, assistant professor, spoke at two sessions, “Yoga for Optimal Pelvic Health and Wellness” and “Orthotic Fabrication for the General Practitioner.” During the second session, she spoke alongside Jennifer Radziak, OTD, OTR/L, CHT, OT program director and assistant professor.

Katherine Jones, MA, OTR/L, CLT-LANA, assistant professor, director of progression and retention, was also a featured speaker during a session entitled “Get A Move On!”

Faculty from ATSU’s Center for Resilience in Aging also presented at the conference. The director of the center, Elton Bordenave, PhD, MEd, associate professor in ATSU-ASHS’ Department of Audiology, as well as Brandi L. Buchanan, OTD, OTR/L, CLA, OT program researcher and adjunct associate professor, presented a session entitled “CarePLace: An Innovative Community Based Care Coordination Program to Address Unmet Caregiver Needs, a Pilot Study.”
