ATSU-ASHS celebrates summer commencement

Graduates received post-professional degrees in occupational therapy, advanced physician assistant studies, physician assistant studies, audiology, physical therapy, and athletic training.

“This graduation highlights the working professionals in their respective professions who have elected to advance to  their next degree,” said ATSU-ASHS Dean Randy Danielsen, PhD, PA-C, DFAAPA. Founded in 1995, ATSU-ASHS is committed to educating and preparing its students to practice at the forefront of a rapidly growing healthcare system.

During the commencement ceremony, a keynote address was given by  Brig. Gen. Kerry L. Muehlenbeck, PhD,  the first female Brigadier General in the Arizona National Guard. Dr. Muehlenbeck is the Director of the Joint Staff, Joint Forces Headquarters, Arizona National Guard and directs the administration, coordination, development, and execution of joint staff programs that prepare the state for contingency operations in state and federal emergencies.

Dr. Muehlenbeck, who received an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree during the ceremony, said in her address to graduates as they go forward to remember in life: parents (get to know them and share stories); humility; presence (take time to listen and engage); losers (embrace failures to push beyond your comfort zone); and dessert (think about what you have earned, not what you deserve).
