ATSU-ASDOH celebrates AEGD program graduates

The Inaugural Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) Residents Gala was held at the Doubletree Resort in Scottsdale, Ariz., on June 11, 2015. The event was held to celebrate fifteen AEGD residents from Central Arizona who graduated from New York University-Lutheran Medical Center and ATSU-Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health program.
AEGD residents are graduate dentists who have received their dental degrees from an accredited four-year dental school. NYU-Lutheran Medical Center employs ATSU-ASDOH AEGD dentists globally. According to the AEGD program coordinator for the Central Arizona Region, Rachel Rivera-Courtright, “Arizona is the largest state to employ AEGD residents, so much so, that the state is broken up into three separate regions – Northern, Central, and Southern Arizona.” ATSU-ASDOH’s Dr. Maureen Perry is the associate director of the Central Arizona Region, which includes Central Arizona Shelter Services (CASS), Maricopa Integrated Health System (MIHS), St. Vincent de Paul, and ATSU-ASDOH Dental Care West (DCW). All residents receive certification in the AEGD program.
Of the 2015 resident graduates, 12 residents were assigned to ATSU-ASDOH Dental Care West, two were assigned to St. Vincent de Paul, and one to Maricopa Integrated Health System.
