KIRKSVILLE, Mo. (Feb. 6, 2007) – One American flag’s long journey around the world came to an end at A.T. Still University (ATSU) on February 5. Captain Frank Morgan, D.O., a 2001 graduate of ATSU’s Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, sent the flag to ATSU President Jim McGovern. The flag had previously flown over Task Force Med during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan while Capt. Morgan was stationed at Bogram Airfield as part of the 14th Combat Surgical Hospital, 10th Mountain Division.
In a note that accompanied the flag, Capt. Morgan said, “I wanted to fly a flag in appreciation of ATSU-KCOM. I have many fond memories of my time there, and I wanted to donate [the flag] to KCOM.”
The flag will be hung in Centennial Commons on ATSU’s Kirksville campus where it may be viewed by the public.
The inscription that accompanies the flag reads: “Let it be known that this flag represents the American resolve following the attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 11, 2001 as well as a tribute to the proud men and women of the Armed Forces serving in Afghanistan. This flag is presented in honor of your distinguished service to our great nation.”
