3D resin printer for faculty and staff

In August, the Kirksville, Missouri, campus 3D lab obtained a new Stratasys J55 Prime 3D printer. At this time it is just for faculty and staff usage. More details can be found below.

Requirements for using the library 3D resin printer

  1. Eligibility and Access:
    • Only authorized users, faculty, or staff of the department may request multi-color, multi-material prints.
    • Reservation of the printer may be required in advance. Please contact the print services manager at dsummers@atsu.edu or libmo@atsu.edu 
  2. File Requirements:
    • 3D files must be in a compatible format, OBJ (.obj) or 3MF (.3mf).
    • The file should be pre-checked for errors using software like GrabCAD Print or Blender to ensure it’s print-ready, with no holes or non-manifold edges.
    • The design should be appropriately scaled to fit within the printer’s build volume.
    • The files should already contain color choices and resin types.
      1. Standard resin, flexible resin, clear resin J55 Prime 3D Printer Brochure and Material Information 
      2. The J55 Prime uses GrabCAD software for printing.
  3. Print Settings and Design:

Department costs

  1. Printing Fees:
    • Costs are usually calculated based on the amount of resin used per print or the current resin price per 1100 kg.
    • Costs may include a base fee for machine use and possible surcharges for special resins or high-resolution prints. Additional charges for post-processing services like cleaning, curing, or sanding may apply.
    • The library will provide an estimated cost before printing.
  2. Payment:
    • Payment methods include the department purchasing the supplies, department chargebacks, or direct payment options like cash or card via the Finance office.
    • All fees or supplies must be purchased or paid before starting the print job.
