Methods
Individuals with special needs who are patients of record at the Advanced Care Clinic at A.T. Still University (n=800) are recruited to complete an original 11-item survey about their value and knowledge of oral health and current oral hygiene behaviors during a regularly scheduled appointment for routine preventative care. Patients first complete a modified version of the validated St. Louis University Mental Status (SLUMS) exam to determine ability to answer the survey. Eligible participants complete the survey using an iPad with assistance as needed. Descriptive statistics are used to report the data. Responses from individual patients are used to identify trends and future educational needs.
