Learning Objectives

1. Be prepared to identify the common causes of chronic pneumonia. Know the classic presentations of the various causes of chronic pneumonia and be prepared to diagnose the causative agent involved.

2. Know what criteria the clinical laboratory uses to determine whether a sputum sample has been properly obtained.

3. Know proper staining techniques and culture of Mycobacteria tuberculosis.

4. Be prepared to determine the classic similarities and differences observed in the following conditions: typical, atypical, and chronic pneumonias.

5. Be prepared to discuss diagnostic and treatment regimens unique to osteopathic training.
