Streptococcus pneumoniae

No this is not the cause of Helen's condition. This organism is the most common cause of typical pneumonia in adults. A more acute onset of symptoms is seen, a shaking chill, and PMN's rather than monocytes are increased in amounts on CBC. A rusty sputum is sometimes seen. This organism is a gram positive diplococcus on gram stain. Try again.
