Legionella pneumophila

No this is not the correct answer. This organism usually is a problem in the elderly patient that has some respiratory problems already (COPD, emphysema, etc.). The patient oftentimes is very toxic, confused, has diarrhea, vomits, elevated liver enzymes, elevated CPK levels, and has bradycardia rather than tachycardia. The organism is stains weakly by gram stain. It does not stain by acid-fast staining and requires a special silver stain. Growth of the organism requires a special charcoal containing agar. Try again.

Do you need to go back and look at Helen again?
