Entamoeba histolytica

This protozoan parasite can cause pneumonia by direct extension from an abscess in the liver to the right lung. The lower lobe of the right lung is normally affected. Chest radiographs usually present as abscesses rather than consolidations. This is normally a very rare complication of this infection. Patients will also have dysentary (mucous and blood containing diarrhea). For more information click here.

Helen did not have any gastrointestinal distress. The chest radiograph did not indicate an abscess was present in the lungs. Try again.

Do you need to go back and look at Helen again?
