With Mycobacterium sp. You would have seen a very gradual onset of respiratory symptoms. These symptoms would have been accompanied by night sweats, weight loss, and a productive cough. An acid-fast stain of the bronchoalveolar lavage would have revealed acid-fast positive rods.
