When I chose ATSU for my DAT program, admittedly, not a lot of deep dive research went into the decision. I looked at schedules. I looked at course offerings. ATSU drew me in in two places. First off was the tracks for directing my degree. As someone who wants to go into higher education, the fact that there was an education track just for me was very promising. Also, the fact that there was one single 4-day on-campus requirement, and it was driving distance form my home in California. I know, inspiring, right? I just happened to choose the best place for maybe not the best reasons, but they got me here. In my first year and a half as a DAT student, I have come to realize that ATSU is more than just a program. I've done education; I know how most programs work. ATSU is worried about so much more than getting my tuition and conferring a degree. They want me to be a better athletic trainer when I'm done. The professors care, the courses are up to date, and the research being done here is remarkable. So going into the Winter Institute, I was very excited. It blew me away. My colleagues and classmates are some of the kindest and most genuine people I have met in this field, my professors are all welcoming and warm. I was sure that sitting in a room for 4 days learning was going to get to be a drag. But it was NOT. The presentations were informative and up to date. Getting to know my professors in the way you only can "IRL" was awesome. Athletic Training can be a lonely profession. We can often feel we are on an island. I left the Winter Institute knowing I was not alone, and I had a whole room full of people who I can call on when I need something. I learned so much about myself as a provider, where my passions truly lie, and what is most important to me professionally. It was an experience I'd gladly do every year over and over again, and one I'm so glad to have experienced. Thank you, ATSU, for being my right choice.
