After finishing my master’s in exercise science in 2007, I assumed my pursuit of further education had concluded. It never crossed my mind to embark on a doctoral degree path — especially 14 years later and while employed as a full-time secondary school athletic trainer. However, after an informative meeting with Dr. Tamara McLeod in 2020, my perspective changed and showed me the feasibility of pursuing an advanced degree in athletic training.

The full-time and adjunct faculty within the Doctor of Athletic Training (DAT) program at A.T. Still University are committed to advancing the profession and encouraging the success of their students. Recognizing the realities of life's demands — particularly for students balancing careers and coursework— the University and DAT faculty aspire to support each student. The ten-week block structure appropriately prepared me to be successful while consistently delivering intellectually stimulating content. Furthermore, the University provides great resources such as an online writing center, readily accessible faculty and staff, and a comprehensive online library, ensuring students have every tool needed to be successful.

Overall, ATSU and the DAT program have provided an enlightening and transformative experience, making me a better athletic trainer. They have enhanced my capabilities as an athletic trainer and improved my scholarship within the field. From the expertise of the educators, to the rigor of the coursework and the enriching in-person Winter Institute experience, my decision to enroll at ATSU stands as one of the most rewarding career choices I've made. I encourage any athletic trainer considering an advanced degree to explore the opportunities offered by this exceptional program.
