The number of patient hours in a year was determined using standard assumptions for hours worked per year. The average number of patient hours per year is 1,840 with the number of patient workdays per year being 230. Patient workdays were defined as 8 hour days and 5 day work weeks. Calculation for 1,840 hr/yr assumed number of work hours per year = 2087. I then subtracted 20 days’ vacation and 10 holidays per year to get to 230 patient workdays. Multiply the 230 patient workdays by 8 hr/day and you get 1,840 patient hours per year. Patients visit more than once per year and the total patient visits were divided by patient visits per year to determine unique patient visits per year.
Average unique patients seen were then determined by degree obtained from ATSU. I realize these numbers are low in that many graduates do not take all their vacation and many of our graduates work more than 8 hours per day. Doing this made me feel like I, as an ATSU professor, was helping our world.
These calculations do not include the patients helped by our students while they are getting their degree at ATSU. In 2018 students helped 101,000 patients in our patient care clinics.
