Franchesca Cook is a physician assistant affiliated with ATSU Kirksville Family Medicine, located on the third floor of ATSU’s Gutensohn Clinic.
Cook started her healthcare career in nursing, graduating from Indian Hills Community College with an associate degree in nursing and earning her bachelor of science degree in nursing from the University of Missouri, Columbia. As a registered nurse, she spent most of her career in emergency nursing, including seven years as a flight nurse in Kirksville, Missouri, for Air Evac Lifeteam. Labor and delivery, post-partum, medical/surgical, family care clinic and ambulance emergency response are other areas where she has utilized her nursing skills.
After eighteen years as a registered nurse, Cook was driven to do more for patients and chose to advance her career through the medical model and graduated from the University of North Dakota’s Masters of Physician Assistant Studies Program. She is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Cook previously worked five years in primary care/urgent care in Kirksville and Alamosa, Colorado, and practiced as an emergency medicine provider in Memphis, Missouri, the past three years. She also currently works as a provider for Samaritan Hospital Wound Care Clinic in Macon, Missouri.
Cook is passionate about preventing disease through a healthy lifestyle. She believes that “taking time for health now, prevents disease later” and looks forward to helping her patients achieve and maintain health. She is excited to be a part of ATSU Kirksville Family Medicine working and learning side by side with future healthcare providers.
Cook is married, the mom of four beautiful daughters, and “Nana” to her sweet granddaughter. Ezzie and Lucky are the family’s pups along with a few chickens. Spending time with family and in the warm, sunny outdoors are her most enjoyed activities.
